Default Cool Image Map

I was thinking of having a cool image map that portrays the pages of my site as the parts of a dog's body or the continents of the world or something. Good idea?

Organizing your site around a big metaphorical image can work, if you can keep the size of the image small enough so that modem users don't grow old and die before they get to see it load. Repeating a piece of the big image on each page helps, so people know which metaphor they're supposed to be playing along with. Personally, I like a nice tacky bit of kitsch once in a while. But if that's not the tone you're after, try to steer clear of the "see?-my-site-is-really-an-X" thing.
